Health Care Tips for your German Shepherd

A German shepherd is known for its aggressiveness and fast response to situations but that does not mean it is not susceptible to health conditions such as skin allergies and canine hip dysplasia. Just like any other dog, it requires special care for optimum health. One of the most important things you can do is feed your German shepherd with a healthy well-balanced diet. To maintain its activity, put more proteins in their diet as well as vegetables. Avoid wheat, corn or food containing additives because they are difficult to digest and result to a gain of calories.

To avoid conditions such as hip dysplasia, take your dog for regular exercises or even use its company during your morning jog or fun activities that you may engage in a day. Apart from the exercises you also need to observe changes in your dog’s ability to follow orders, weight change, increased aggression and skin problems. You also need to observe the oral health of your dog by checking its mouth for bleeding gums, sores or lose teeth.  Having all these signs checked could prevent a potentially dangerous health problem.

It is advisable to have your dog examined by a vet after around or 6 months or any time you notice anomalies with their behavior.
